About Showa Denko

In 1939, Showa Denko K.K. was born with the merger of Showa Fertilizers K.K., which was the first ammonia maker introducing domestically developed technology, and Nihon Iodine K.K., which pioneered commercial production of aluminum in Japan and changed the firm name to Nihon Denki Kogyo in 1934.

The Showa Denko Group noticed the high potential of abundant hydraulic power, which is a major resource of Japan. The Group started its history by focusing on promising future of the electrochemical industry which can make the most of hydroelectric power, and expanded its business domain to cover inorganic chemicals, organic chemicals and metallic materials. Now the Group covers many business areas including petrochemicals, chemicals, electronics, inorganics and aluminum. In these business areas, the Group has been producing various materials and parts, and developing diverse technologies. By offering necessary products in various fields of daily life, the Group continues contributing to the sound growth of society where affluence and sustainability are harmonized.

Chemistry has limitless potential. To maximize such potential of chemistry and realize it as much as possible, we in the Showa Denko Group shall give careful attention to people’s voices and hone our technologies, thereby providing products and services that touch people’s heart and solutions that make society better.
